Dear Readers,

Hi, it’s Jenna.

The end of a sport’s season is always hard, but what made the end of this season even harder was knowing it would be our last as Ledgemont Redskins. Our last home game was on Friday, February 20. Before the game even started, I knew it was going to be a very tough night to get through. I just didn’t want to see it end. We have all grown so close over the years. We have become a family, and we will always be a family, even if we’re not all together anymore.

I’m glad I got to cheer four seasons as a Ledgemont Redskin. This year was my favorite, because I became such great friends and family with the other girls on the squad, both basketball and football. But what by far made this my favorite year was being able to cheer with my best friend, my sister Jill. I want to thank all my teammates from this year — Kayla, Sierra, Bridget, Kaylee, Jill, Shelby, Maddie, Dakota and Ariel — for always being there for me and making this a year to remember. Most importantly, I want to thank my coach, Robin, for teaching me so much and always being there for me. I wouldn’t be the cheerleader I am today without you.

I’ve made so many memories this year with my team; from cheerleading camp to all of our sleepovers at Robin’s lake house to all of the games. I’m going to miss not being able to see them every day at practice and at the games like I have the past five months, because it’s all over.

Tuesday, we had practice and attended the girls’ Senior Night and final home game. Best of luck to seniors Carysa, Alivia and Taylor. We helped cheer in the crowd, and the girls made quick work of their opponent. There were a lot of alumni in attendance and lots of tears and hugs. It was a bittersweet way to end the season for the girls.

Friday’s game was a bigger sea of emotions. We introduced the sen-iors, Maddie, Shelby, Logan, Dakota and Brad, and all of the alumni that were in attendance. They helped form a tunnel for the boys to run through. Then the boys played Windham and tried their best. We put on a great halftime show, which was hard to get through knowing it was our last time in our gym together. Our Ledgemont Redskin crowd really helped, and our bleachers were practically full.

I can’t tell you how many tears I shed, but there were a lot, and I wasn’t the only one. After the game, no one wanted to leave. We took a lot of pictures, but there will never be enough pictures to capture what we are losing. We know that our family and our community will never be the same. I had a hard time writing this, because it just makes me cry. It still hardly seems real.

Our next game is Tuesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. at Warren JFK.

Ledgemont Redskins, Family Forever!

Jenna
