St. Mary Enrichment
St. Mary’s third-grade enrichment group literally had a “blast” researching volcanoes of the world this week. Enrichment teacher Meg Pawar introduced the students to three types of volcanoes and helped them learn why each one forms in different locations and under different conditions.
Following their research, students participated in a chemistry and geology hands-on experiment of their own.
Student member Luke Hoge described how they made simulated volcanoes from clay, and then dropped a cup inside with materials designed to make a chemical reaction, saying, “it bubbled all over when it erupted.”
Students who participate in enrichment classes are able to take concepts from their curriculum and spend some additional time expanding their knowledge and skills.
Dancing in Music Class
Fourth-graders have been working on the Kentucky running set dance in music class with their teacher Kristina Romano. In pairs and groups, they count steps and work to learn music and moves.
