Fall Trash Day

Fall Trash Day will take place at the township park Sept. 26 from 8 a.m. to noon.

No yard waste, garbage, paint or hazardous chemicals will be accepted. The township will accept old appliances (Freon need not be removed), old building scrap, lawn mowers, tools and even campers and boats.

Secure shredding will also be available. The times for shredding will be announced closer to the date.

Call the township hall at 440-286-4364 with any questions. Trash day is for Hambden residents only.

Zoning Commission Vacancy

Trustees are looking for a Hambden resident to serve as an alternate on the township zoning commission. The zoning commission meets on the first Monday of each month.

Members review and update the township zoning regulations. The alternate position only has voting rights if there is not a quorum at a meeting, but his or her input in decision-making is always welcome.

For more information, or to submit a letter of interest, please contact the township hall at 440-286-3264.

Fire Dept. Clam/Steak Bake

Hambden Fire Department is holding its first clam and steak bake of the season at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at the fire station. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased from any of firefighters or at the station, 440-285-3329.

Dinner includes a dozen clams or a steak, chicken, corn, sweet potatoes and a beverage. An extra dozen clams can be purchased for $10.

Be sure to get tickets early because this event is sure to sell out. A second clambake will be held in October.

Recycling at the Park

Things go along pretty good for a while and then it seems when one person starts dumping their recyclables on the ground, a bunch of people do.

Please, do not dump items on the ground. It just makes for more work for township employees and takes them away from projects that really need to be done that benefit the township.

If the bins in front are full, go to the back, and on the rare occasion that they are all full, come back in a day or two. Thanks for everyone’s cooperation.

Township Meetings

Hambden Township Board of Trustees meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the township hall. Trustees value the residents’ input and hope that they will attend the meetings.

Now that this years’ paving project has been completed, the road crew is busy working on roadside mowing, the township park and road patching projects. If anyone has any questions or concerns, we really want to hear from you and want you to know that we are doing all we can to make your township a great place for you to live.

The next project is construction of a salt storage shed, which will allow us to buy much larger quantities of salt at a much lower price and make sure there is always enough on hand when needed. Salt can be very hard to get if the township runs low in the middle of winter.
