Holocaust Survivor’s Story Told

The original play, “The Star on My Heart,” written by Ohio writer and theater director Angela Miloro-Hansen, will premiere this month at Shore Cultural Centre in Euclid, and Geauga Lyric Theater Guild in Chardon. The play is based on the true story of Holocaust survivor Inge Auerbacher. Of the 15,000 children that were imprisoned in the Terezin concentration camp, Inge is one of the few that survived.

Two young actors have been cast to play Auerbacher at different times during her youth. Eighth-grader Casey plays teen Inge and sixth-grader Milena plays a younger Inge.

In addition to performances of the play, educational outreach is planned for Euclid and Geauga County region students. Casey was fortunate to have met the woman she will portray on stage.

Shore Cultural Centre was a recipient of an Ohio Arts Council grant towards a portion of expenses for this project.

In addition to performances of the play, Inge Auerbacher will give a presentation at 8 p.m. at Geauga Theater on Nov. 15, and at Shore Cultural Centre on Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Admission for the talks is $10 or free with a ticket from the performance, with funds benefiting the project. Inge is the author of six books, including “I Am a Star,” of which she will be signing.

Tickets may be purchased directly through the venues.

Performances are Nov. 13 and 14 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. at Geauga Lyric Theater Guild, 101 Water St. in Chardon. Call 440-286-2255 or visit www.geaugatheater.org.

Performances are Nov. 21 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. at Shore Cultural Centre, 291 E. 222nd St. in Euclid. Call 216-289-8578.
