Living On Mars

Jan. 8, 7-8 p.m.

Observatory Park

What would it take for humans to live on Mars? Learn more about plans for colonizing the red planet at the Robert McCullough Science Center. Followed by night-sky viewing using the Observatory Park telescopes if weather permits.

Learn to Snowshoe

Jan. 9

Learn the basics of snowshoeing at Big Creek’s Meyer Center from 10 a.m. to noon or at Frohing Meadows’ Kaytdid Shelter from 2-4 p.m. Indoor presentation will be followed by outdoor instruction. Borrow a pair from the park district or bring your own. Ages 8 and up. Registration required.

Cub Scouts: Astronomy Beltloop & Pin

Jan. 9, 1-3 p.m.

The West Woods Nature Center

Scouts work on requirements utilizing the planetarium and special exhibits at Observatory Park. Registration required.

Night Sky Viewing

Jan. 9, 7-11 p.m.

Observatory Park

Take in the wonders of the universe using the Observatory Park telescopes. If weather conditions are cloudy, join us for an indoor planetarium presentation instead.

Intro to Cross Country Skiing

Jan 10, 1-3 p.m.

Orchard Hills Park, Lodge

Learn the basics of cross country skiing. Indoor presentation will be followed by outdoor instruction. Ski rental available in advance from Geiger’s of Chagrin Falls 440-247-4900. Registration required.

Travelogue: Florida Road Trip by Car

Jan. 10, 2-3 p.m.

The West Woods Nature Center

Join chief naturalist John Kolar as he present photos and stories from his February 2015 road trip around Florida.

John Muir: Come Home to Nature

Jan. 10, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

The West Woods, Nature Center

Travel back in time to meet the famous naturalist John Muir as he recalls some of his more memorable “hands-on” experiences.

Volunteer Orientation

Jan. 11, 4 p.m. & 7 p.m.

Review Geauga Park District volunteer opportunities and start paperwork to become an official volunteer. All volunteers age 18 and older must complete a background check. Orientation registration requested, but walk-ins are welcome.

Geauga Walkers

Jan. 12, 1-2:30 p.m.,

The Rookery, Great Blue Heron Lodge

Join other active seniors on weekly hikes typically one and one-half miles long. A naturalist leads hikes held in Geauga Park District parks. Call Geauga Senior Center, 440-279-2137, for the schedule.
