Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District has announced the launch of the 2016 Great American Cleanup.

Entering its 27th year, the Great American Cleanup is the country’s largest community improvement program that kicks off in more than 20,000 communities each spring.

Each year, the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup engages more than four million volunteers and participants across the country to take action in their local communities to create positive change and lasting impact.

Geauga-Trumbull SWMD, along with other organizations in Keep America Beautiful’s national network of community-based affiliates, plan volunteer events and education programs that help to renew parks, trails and recreation areas, clean shorelines and waterways, remove litter and debris, reduce waste and improve recycling, and plant trees and flowers.

“Locally we will begin our litter cleanup program April 1 and continue throughout the month of May. As in the past, we look forward to a very rewarding 2016, registering over 100 groups, schools and community cleanups,” said Holly Carine, district education specialist. “Supplies are available now and residents can complete our online form at www.startrecycling.com.”

District-sponsored recycling activities include 50 community drop-off stations, household hazardous waste collection and electronics recycling, appliance collection and document destruction.

All information and 2016 spring dates can be found on the district website, www.startrecycling.com, or by calling 1-800-707-2673.
