April snow showers bring … nothing but frustration for Geauga County spring sports teams.
As sure a sign of spring as robins and peepers — rain, snow, sleet, wind that cancel, postpone and move sporting events to better facilities. Baseball and softball teams are used to such things. But now track?
For the first time ever, the Achilles Hilltopper Invitational track meet that hosts 12 area teams at Chardon High School has been cancelled because of weather forecasts that include bitter cold windchill predictions, a high of 27 with a 90 percent chance of snow.
“It is unfortunate, but we feel this decision is in the best interest of all involved, especially the student-athletes,” wrote Chardon Athletic Director Doug Snyder in an email.
