The National Association of Conservation Districts has proclaimed April 24 through May 1 as Stewardship Week, marking the 61st year of the national event. In celebration, Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring a poster contest. The theme is “We All Need Trees.”

The purpose of the contest is to instill in youth a connection to the important benefit of protecting our natural resources. Students will discover the environmental benefits of trees through this conservation instilled contest.

The contest is open to all students from public, private and home schools. All participants will receive their very own water soaking, soil saving tree to plant and foster.

New this year, invite Geauga SWCD into the classroom for a free “We All Need Trees” program. The program will focus on the benefits of trees while encouraging students as they begin their creative journey on their posters.

Posters must measure between 8 1/2- by-11 inches and 22-by-28 inches and must be submitted to the Geauga SWCD office at 14269 Claridon-Troy Road, Burton, on or before May 27.

The Geauga SWCD is offering a $30 first prize and $25 second prize in each grade level category: K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. The first place winners in each category will move on to the area competition, where they will then have an opportunity to move on to the state competition and then national.

For information, contact Geauga SWCD at 440-834-1122 or online at www.geaugaswcd.com.
