Adventure-seekers gathered for an exclusive exploration northeast of Burton Township on July 2 to explore an untamed Geauga County natural wonder. “It is a distinct natural feature of Geauga County, a hidden gem,” said Dan Best, Geauga Park District naturalist and program leader. “Although there are outcroppings of Sharon conglomerate throughout Geauga County and the surrounding region, the character of the stone is different in Welton’s Gorge.” Backcountry hikers participated in the park district’s free off-trail and off-site trek to “Geauga’s Little Grand Canyon,” not available for public access at this point and time, to discover deep rock ledges, cool...
