Geauga Beef & Swine

Geauga Beef & Swine 4-H Club held its meeting July 17 at the Geauga County Fairgrounds. Members talked about the beef buyer gifts and had Mr. Ed Rumburg speak about how to write a proper buyer’s letter to our prospective buyers.

They also talked about Camp Whitewood and what a great time the club’s five campers and two counselors had. Two awards were received. Tyler Plants received the Best First Year Counselor Award and Tatumn Poff received the Hands Award.

The club is participating in the food drive for Geauga County and each family is to bring at least two items. All members did well on the Skillathon.

The next meeting is Aug. 7 at the fairgrounds. (Submitted by Tatumn Poff, news reporter)

Geauga PrimeTime

The meeting for the Geauga PrimeTime 4-H members began on June 21st at 7:10 p.m. and was called to order by president Sidney Cala. David Braun gave his report on the safety and care of the animals stating that the pens need to be well kept and the feed and water containers need to be thoroughly cleaned of any grime for their health. Mrs Clemson informed the older members that there were two scholarships available for applications.

The club finalized the details for its car wash that was held on July 2 in Chardon. Members also decided to participate in the “Family Afair” by donating $100 to its cause.

An event was scheduled for the Larry Lokai market clinic on Aug. 16, so that more inexperienced members can learn what they need for a successful show at fair. It was decided to participate in barn displays and a gate display. Buyers gifts were decided upon and anyone needing club T-shirts can now order them. (Submitted by Jonathan Anderson, news reporter)

Geauga Dairymen

On July 16, the Geauga Dairymen club had a very big day. The morning started out bright and early with Skillathon, which took place at the Geauga Fairgrounds from 9-11 a.m. Good news, everyone passed.

After the members completed Skillathon, it was time to rest up for the big pool party that night. The festivities started at 6 p.m. It was held at Nancy’s house. When everyone was present, they started taking the individual pictures and club photo. After that, everyone jumped in the pool.

It was a very nice day for a pool party. Nancy was cooking chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs. After everyone ate, the club held its 4-H meeting. Fair is approaching very fast. Fair is Sept. 1-5. Members talked about their animals and how they are walking for them. The club picked its T-shirt design and everyone saw it on the computer. It’s a very cute design.

Then, members discussed the safety posters. The deadline for them is Aug. 1. They are getting judged at fair. After that, members talked about their dairy basket and what they want to put in it.

I would love to share the club’s ideas, but readers just need to come check out the dairy basket for themselves at fair.

Members ended the meeting shortly after and everyone wanted to jump back in the pool. (Submitted by Lizzie Knopp, news reporter)
