Tappin’ Sunday March 9
Bundle up and bring the family up to the Sugar House on Chardon Square for the annual Tappin’ Sunday ceremony, which begins at 1 p.m. After putting the spiel in the maple tree, a maple bucket will adorn the tree while the sap flows. Maple stirs will be available in the sugar house.
Visit the Log Cabin to enjoy the variety of maple products and cotton candy on sale by the Kiwanis of Chardon from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kiwanis members will be giving out free samples of fresh maple cotton candy.
Kiwanis will continue to sell maple products in the Log Cabin every Saturday and Sunday during the Lenten season except for Easter Sunday, April 20.
Kiwanis Spouses’ Meeting
Board members of the Chardon Kiwanis will meet March 6 to review the volunteer schedule for selling maple products on weekends before the festival and then during the entire four-day Maple Festival taking place April 24-27.
Birthday Wishes
My dear friend Helen Wilson will celebrate her birthday March 6 followed by her son-in-law Chris’s birthday on March 7. She is a great community volunteer, friend, mother and grandmother. Best wishes, Helen, for many more to come.

Lenten Dinners
Check out the delicious pancake breakfasts at the Chardon VFW on Sundays from 8 a.m. to noon during Lent. The Chardon Fraternal Order of the Eagles invites the public to enjoy pancake breakfasts from 9 a.m. to noon on Sundays as well as spaghetti dinners on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for the next three Tuesdays in March. Cost is $3 for a single dinner or $6 for all-you-can-eat.
The FOE of Chardon will also continue its fish frys on Friday evenings. St. Mary Church in Chardon holds fish frys every Friday during Lent as well.
Mobile Food Pantry
People who financially qualify for the Geauga Mobile Food Pantry are encouraged to fill out an application and stop by the food distribution on March 15, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to noon at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road.
The pantry is sponsored by Celebration Lutheran Church and St. Luke Episcopal Church of Chardon. Future distribution dates are April 19, May 17 and June 21. Call either church for information.
