The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Sept. 30 through Oct. 6. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 183 calls during this seven-day period.
EXTRA PATROL
Oct. 2
9:51 a.m., Hotchkiss Road, Burton. Complainant requesting extra patrol for Hotchkiss Road during the day times. Yesterday a dark green Grand Am with temp tags was doing at least 80 mph and the second time he was possibly racing or chasing a black pick-up truck. Complainant was advised to call if he sees the above vehicles speeding in the area again.
Oct. 4
4:27 p.m., Cutts Road, Hambden. Caller is requesting extra patrol for persons stealing political signs from his yard. It had to have occurred either overnight or early this morning. Caller is going to set up a trail camera and will notify the sheriff’s office if he records anyone taking his new sign.
SUSPICIOUS
Oct. 4
10:15 a.m., Claridon Troy Road, Claridon. When complainant checked her phone around 8 a.m., she found a message from a woman holding up a picture of what appeared to be her daughter with the face blacked out and a message saying we have your daughter now for the last five hours. She did finally reach her daughter and all is OK. She is being told by two others this is a scam. Now the message is gone from her phone; it just disappeared. Report taken.
Oct. 5
9:11 p.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Males at the location are loading up a large piece of construction equipment. Caller would like to confirm the males are supposed to be taking it. Males are wearing reflective gear. Deputy stopped the truck pulling a trailer with the paver. Deputy confirmed the owner, Chagrin Valley Paving, was picking up the equipment.
TRAFFIC HAZARD
Oct. 6
12:13 p.m., Taylor Wells Road, Claridon. Caller reports large clumps of mud on the roadway that is a hazard for smaller vehicles. Claridon road crews will be enroute to clean up the roadway. Deputy observed a large amount of mud in the roadway that stretched a few hundred yards. The townshis road department arrived and cleared the roadway with a plow. Deputy tracked down the responsible party, who advised he was operating the piece of equipment that left the mud in the roadway. He was warned and advised he could be cited if this happens again in the future.
TRAFFIC OFFENSE
Oct. 3
2:31 p.m., Wing Road, Auburn. Caller called about a month ago for excessive speeding on Wing Road. It is still happening. Caller states some of them live on the street, others she does not know. Most active time is after the high school lets out as some of them look like teenagers. She is concerned for the small children that are getting off the bus in the area. Extra patrol requested for speeders.
VANDALISM
Sept. 30
11:08 p.m., Ravenna Road, Chardon. Caller states her house was egged approximately 15 minutes ago. Caller states this is the second time this has happened. Caller did not see who did it, but there are footprints in the driveway.
