KCS Presents “Radium Girls”

Kenston Center Stage presents “Radium Girls.” The rapidly paced play with short, quick scenes in many different locations, tells a true story about young women poisoned by radium in the 1920s. Hired to paint watch dials with luminous radium-laced paint and witnessing her friends getting sick and feeling symptoms herself, one young woman begins her fight for justice against the company who denies any culpability.

Eighteen actors play over 40 characters and a large crew works to efficiently transition locations in this fast moving drama. A large rear projection screen flashing black and white photographs, many from news stories of the real events, help set the scenes.

Performance dates are Nov. 11-12 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. in the Robert A. Lee Auditorium.

All tickets are $8 and all seats are reserved. Ticket sales begin online Nov. 1 on the KHS homepage. To avoid all ticketing fees, tickets may also be purchased at the entrance to the Bomber Café during lunch blocks beginning Nov. 7. Tickets are also sold one hour prior to curtain, but carry an additional $1 processing fee per ticket.

PACK Hosts Candidates Night

Members of Kenston High School Political Action Committee of Kenston (PACK) hosted candidates and community members at a candidates night forum held in conjunction with The League of Women Voters of Geauga County. Candidates and issue representatives shared their platform and answered audience questions.

School Closing Information

Fall is in the air, but winter is just around the corner We understand that the decision to close school or offer a two-hour delay impacts your family. We agree that the best education occurs in the classroom with our teachers. As the person responsible for the final decision to open or close school, the safety of your child is a top priority.

State law now allows schools to change to an hour-based schedule eliminating the need for calamity days. Kenston has over 10 days worth of instructional hours beyond the state minimum. At this time, we do not anticipate the need to makeup days or use Blizzard Bags for cancelled school days.

We will continue to work with the local road departments, law enforcement and school personnel to carefully analyze all relevant factors before closing school. We strive to make the decision to close by 5:30 a.m. or earlier. We will then notify TV stations, post information on the website, contact students and staff via the automated calling system, Tweet @KenstonSchools and post on the School Closing Hotline at 440-564-2134.

Child Find

As required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA 2004), the Kenston Local Schools is conducting the Child Find campaign to identify, locate and evaluate all children with disabilities from age 3 through 21, residing within the school district. This includes Bainbridge and Auburn children with disabilities who are homeless, wards of the state or attending nonpublic schools, regardless of the severity of the disability.

If you know of a child with a disability, or a child suspected of having a disability, who is not currently receiving appropriate educational and related services, call Rita Pressman at Kenston’s Special Education Office at 440-543-3013.

Submitted Michael Wager, left, and Andrew Jarvi, candidates for Ohio’s 14th Congressional District, field questions during a candidates night forum held at Kenston High School.
