Thank You, Chardon Rotary
Maple Elementary school recently received an $880 check from Chardon Rotary Club to go toward the school’s music therapy program.
Music therapy is provided by private licensed music therapist Lucille Brown from Sound Inspirations. Weekly sessions address the development of cognitive, behavioral, physical, emotional and social skills of students with special needs. Students are engaged during therapy sessions by interacting with instruments, singing, songwriting, movement and therapeutic listening.
Eagle Scout Presentation
At the Jan. 23 meeting of the Chardon Schools Board of Education, junior Jason Tysl presented information on his Eagle Scout project, a proposed chimney swift tower on the grounds of Chardon High School. The tower will be erected close to where a chimney was demolished this past year.
Chimney swifts eat many insects, including mosquitoes, and annually migrate between their summer and winter homes. When the chimney swift lands, it can’t perch. Instead, it clings to vertical walls inside chimneys or in hollow trees or caves. This species has suffered sharp declines as chimneys fall into disuse across the continent, so Jason wants the Chardon chimney swifts to have a new home when they come looking for the Chardon High School chimney.
