Geauga County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Montville Township woman March 17 after she allegedly burglarized at least two Amish homes in Parkman Township.
Lisa A. Bishop, 39, of Morgan Road, was charged with burglary, a second-degree felony. She was arraigned Monday in Chardon Municipal Court and is being held on a $50,000 cash or surety bond at the Geauga County Safety Center.
Deputies responded to reports of burglaries in Parkman last Friday afternoon, Lt. John Hiscox, public information officer for the sheriff’s office, told the Geauga County Maple Leaf.
The first call came in shortly before 3 p.m. when a Hobart Road resident called 9-1-1 to report an encounter in her home with a white female who had stolen a large amount of cash.
The suspect was described as wearing tight boots, possibly a brown coat and having reddish brown hair. The homeowner also observed a white conversion van in the driveway.
Then, a little after 4 p.m., a Nelson Road resident called 9-1-1 to report a white female with long brown hair was inside her home. A white van also was seen parked in her driveway.
The homeowner said the suspect took her purse, but when confronted gave it back.
While deputies were searching the area, Hiscox, said the Portage County Sheriff’s Office received two additional burglaries that had just occurred and the vehicle and suspect description matched the description as identified in Geauga County.
A vigilant victim in one of the Portage County incidents obtained a vehicle license plate and promptly reported it to dispatch, he added.
Later that afternoon, sheriff’s office detectives spotted the suspect vehicle traveling on Mayfield Road in Munson Township. The vehicle was traffic stopped and Bishop was taken into custody. Jars of loose change, cash and other miscellaneous items were located inside of the vehicle, Hiscox said.
While speaking with detectives, Bishop confessed to numerous burglaries against the Amish community in Geauga, Ashtabula, Trumbull and Portage counties, the lieutenant added.
