Young individuals with special needs in Geauga County are receiving a great educational experience through a specially designed program, Geauga Achieve.
Geauga Achieve serves students with multiple disabilities who require moderate to intensive instruction. The program currently has six classrooms located throughout Geauga County in the following public school buildings: Lindsey Elementary, West Geauga Middle School, West Geauga High School; Timmons Elementary School, Kenston Middle School; and Cardinal High School.
Geauga Achieve offers two sites for half-day pre-vocational training programs to support students in their preparation for transition to adult life and employment options.
This year, Pat Preston, of Preston Superstore, in Burton, chose this program as one of many to support by donating $4,000.
“Our program empowers young individuals with multiple disabilities through a supportive and integrated educational environment,” said Robin Ludwig, director of Geauga Achieve. “We have designed the program to ensure each student thrives to their best ability both in school and beyond.”
Geauga Achieve students participate in kindergarten all the way through high school (their 22nd birthday). It aims to provide all students, regardless of disability, an educational program in a supportive environment that meets the individual needs of the student.
Each class can accommodate a maximum of eight students and is led by a licensed intervention specialist. Students receive instruction in the core academic areas with a modified curriculum based on the Ohio Department of Education Standards and Extended Standards.
