About midnight on July 20, a man walked into the Circle K Store in Russell Township seeking help. He had been shot in the back.
Russell Township fire and police responded, and the victim was transported to Hillcrest Hospital.
The victim told police he had been in an argument with the occupant of a home on Silver Creek Drive, where he lives in an “out building” about two miles from the Circle K, according to a news release.
The victim’s name was not released; the suspected shooter is Cornell White.
The victim said the occupant shot him while he was sitting on the couch. When he requested an ambulance, another occupant of the home refused and gave him a bag of aspirin and an energy drink and told him he would be fine, according to the release.
When those two went to bed, the victim walked to the Circle K to seek help.
The Geauga County Prosecutors Office and Valley Enforcement Group’s SWAT team assisted with a search warrant and surrender of the suspect. The Russell police then executed a search warrant, and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in processing the crime scene, where a number of firearms were seized.
White, of 8644 Silver Creek Drive, was arrested and charged with felonious assault, using weapons under disability and aggravated menacing.
The case will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for presentment to the Geauga County grand jury.
