  • Low Vision Support Group: Aug. 14, 10 a.m. Joel G. Proskovec, LISW-S of the Cleveland Sight Center, facilitates the monthly group that is open anyone who has or loves someone with vision problems caused by macular degeneration, glaucoma or other conditions.

Jewelry Making Class

Aug. 11, 10 a.m. to noon

Merry Kay will meet with attendees at Chardon Senior Center to discuss future jewelry making classes and days and times that best fit the needs of those interested in participating. Upcoming dates will be posted after this initial class, so stay tuned for the future schedules.

Cost is minimal for supplies and price may vary depending on the beads and materials one uses. Classes are held in the basement on scheduled days.

Matter of Balance

University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, Briar Hill, Hospice of the Western Reserve and Geauga Department on Aging are offering Matter of Balance classes to Geauga seniors interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength and in preventing falls.

Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 15 to Sept. 7, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Briarcliff Manor, 14807 North State St. in Middlefield.

Seniors will learn to manage concerns about falls as well as set realistic goals for staying active, learn how to stay safe at home, complete exercises to increase strength and balance and learn how to identify and control the fear of falling.

This class is free for registered seniors. Call 440-214-3180 to register; space is limited.

Solar Eclipse Outing

Aug. 21

The Geauga Department on Aging has planned a solar eclipse outing on for local seniors. The day will start with a stop at Cabana’s for lunch before heading over to Observatory Park. Special equipment to safely view the solar eclipse will be available.

If transportation is needed, meet at West Geauga Senior Center at 10:45 a.m. or meet at Cabanas, 12719 Mayfield Road, Chardon at 11:30 a.m. Or just meet at Observatory Park around 1 p.m.

Transportation from the WGSC is $3 (payable that day). Lunch is on your own. The group will return to WGSC at approximately 4 p.m.
