The Chardon post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred Friday afternoon in Middlefield Township, killing an elderly woman.
At approximately 2:15 p.m., Mary B. Miller, 77, of Middlefield, was traveling southbound on state Route 528 in a 2002 Dodge Neon when a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, also traveling southbound and driven by 20-year-old Logan M. Campbell, of Middlefield, attempted to pass Miller’s vehicle on the left side, the patrol said in a statement.
At the same time, Miller attempted to make a left turn into a private driveway. Campbell’s vehicle struck Miller’s vehicle on the driver’s side, and both vehicles came to a final rest off the east side of Route 528.
Campbell was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Miller also was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the fatal crash.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the patrol.
