Newbury head volleyball coach Michael Chaffee earned his 500th career win over Laurel on Sept. 23.
Chaffee took over the Black Knights program this year after spending 31 years coaching high school volleyball, mostly at Windham High School.
“It’s always interesting to reach a milestone,” Chaffee said Tuesday. “One of the neat things about milestones is it lets you think back on the players, coaches, athletic directors and parents that had such a role in your success.”
Chaffee also said that he had already been coaching for 20 years before most of his players were born, kids are still kids. “Things are different, but the kids aren’t. If you can get them to buy in on the goals of having fun and getting better,” he said. Chaffee is also in his third year as the Newbury High School’s principal.
