Mitten Tree Helps Animals

The animal mitten tree project at Cardinal Middle School was a big success. Food Service Director Janis Benton coordinated the event, asking students to bring in items for pets at the Geauga Humane Society’s Rescue Village.

For every item students brought in, their name was entered into a drawing for a pizza party for them and three of their friends. Sixth-grader Alyssa L. was the winner. She and her friends enjoyed a special pizza party Dec. 21. Thank you to everyone who donated items for the Rescue Village.

Gingerbread Helps With Reading

Students in Mrs. Courtney Dyer’s kindergarten class have been reading different versions of gingerbread man stories and are then discussing similarities, differences, characters, settings, problems and solutions from each story. They wrapped up the lesson by making their own gingerbread men. Parents donated items to help decorate the cookies. Students each created their own masterpieces and then took a vote as to which part of the gingerbread man to eat first. Mrs. Dyer says the students had fun and did a great job with the lesson and the decorating.

Mobile Dentist Coming To Jordak

Cardinal Schools are once again partnering with Ohio Dental Outreach to offer in-school dental care. A state licensed dentist will be on site at Jordak Elementary School Jan. 10 and 11 to provide a cleaning, X-rays as necessary, fluoride treatment and apply sealants, as needed. Additional care, such as fillings, may also be provided.

A dental report card will be sent home with each child. Information was sent home with students prior to winter break about the program and scheduling an appointment. Parents can also learn more and schedule an appointment time online at www.MySchoolDentist.com.
