Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel on Monday announced the launch of Geauga County’s online checkbook on OhioCheckbook.com.
The checkbook includes more than 104,000 individual transactions representing more than $664 million of total spending over the past three years, according to a Feb. 12 news release.
“Geauga County has always operated in an open and transparent manner. Our doors are open to the public and we welcome citizens to utilize the resources available at county offices and online,” county Auditor Frank Gliha said. “By joining OhioCheckbook.com, Geauga County residents now have a resource that allows a firsthand view into county expenditures at any time of the day, and I hope that it will reinforce confidence in Geauga County government.”
Joined Gliha at Monday’s announcement were Ohio Treasurer’s Office Director of Public Affairs Dan Risko and Geauga County Chief Deputy Auditor Ron Leyde.
Geauga County is the 33rd county to post its spending on OhioCheckbook.com, which Mandel’s office launched in December 2014.
“I believe the people of Geauga County have a right to know how their tax money is being spent and I applaud local leaders here for partnering with my office to post the finances on OhioCheckbook.com,” Mandel said. “By posting local government spending online, we are empowering taxpayers across Ohio to hold public officials accountable.”
