United Way Services of Geauga County has announced the availability of funding for local organizations.
This is a new funding model based on UWSGC’s mission and vision to be the leader in improving the quality of life in the county.
UWSGC seeks to fund programs serving individuals and families who live or work in Geauga County and focus on promoting self-sufficiency for all program participants.
Self-sufficiency, as defined for requests for funding, is, “The ability to identify personal and community resources; connecting to those resources and managing them to achieve maximum, long term personal potential.”
While one of the most affluent in Ohio, 25 percent of Geauga residents are struggling in poverty or with an income that falls below the standard of living for the county, according to the Ohio United Way website, www.ouw.org/ALICE.
These individuals and families struggle every day to make ends meet. UWSGC’s mission and this funding opportunity is to help members of the community access the resources available and utilize them to reach a level of stability as they continue to better their personal situation.
In coordination with local partners and community volunteers, UWSGC has identified 10 areas that present the most prevalent road blocks towards self-sufficiency: Income, Employment, Shelter, Food, Transportation, Childcare, Adult Education, Health Care, Mental Health and Substance Abuse.
In soliciting proposals for funding, UWSGC is seeking to encourage applicants to propose current or new programs, or collaborations between applicant organizations to meet the needs of their target program participants in as many of the 10 areas as possible.
While it is understood one organization cannot meet all needs for all people, it is the mission of UWSGC to bring local organizations together to make Geauga County a strong and successful community for all residents.
Nonprofit organizations interested in applying can access information on UWSGC’s website, www.uwsgc.org.
The funding period will be July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2020.
All approved funding will be announced in June 2018.
