Geauga Dems Go Green

March 10, 6 p.m.

The Geauga County Democratic Party will host its annual St. Patrick’s dinner at the Geauga County Democratic Headquarters and Social Hall located at 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury. Enjoy a corned beef and cabbage dinner and live music featuring Tom Todd.

Additional parking is available on the far eastern side of the plaza.

Sunday Supper at NUCC

March 11, 5 p.m.
Newbury United Community Church is hosting a free community dinner at the church located at 14916 Auburn Road in Newbury. Call the church at 440-564-5991 by March 8 for reservations.

Genealogical Society Meets

March 13, 7 p.m.
Lorina Mast will present “Growing Up Amish” at the next meeting of the Geauga County Genealogical Society at the Chardon Library, 110 E. Park St. The program will begin after the business meeting.

VFW Corned Beef Sandwiches

Chardon VFW Post 6519

March 16, 11:30 a.m.

Chardon VFW Post 6519 will serve corned beef sandwiches from 11:30 a.m. until they are gone. Donation is $8. Call 440-285-3699 for pickup orders. The post is located at 752 Water St. in Chardon.

Czech Easter Bread

DTJ Taborville is selling the traditional Czech Easter bread by order only. Mazanec, or houska, is a sweet dough with golden raisins and almonds baked into a round loaf with a cross cut into the top.

Cost is $7.50 for a 2-pound loaf. Orders must be placed by March 22 and can be picked up March 25.

CV Herb Society Meets

March 16, 12:30 p.m.

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library. Bring a mug for refreshments. Following a short business meeting, the group will explore Lowe’s Greenhouse and discover new plants that will hot this coming season.

St. Patrick’s Dinner & Reverse Raffle

March 17, 5 p.m.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a dinner and reverse raffle at St. Patrick Church, 16550 Rock Creek Road in Thompson.

Doors open at 5 p.m. Cost is  $30 for appetizers, traditional corned beef dinner and one main board ticket. Dinner served at 6 p.m.

Main board prize is $1,250. Side boards are available. Beer and wine available for purchase. Drawing begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.

St. Patrick’s Day Special

March 17, 5-7 p.m.

Middlefield VFW Post 9678 will serve corned beef sandwiches for $7 and host an Irish costume contest at 7 p.m. The $10 entrance fee for the costume contest benefits Veterans In Need. The winner takes 40 percent. Event also features a 50/50 raffle and lottery raffle. Irish drinks will be available at the open cash bar. The post is located at 16013 E. High St., Middlefield. Audubon Strolls Diverse Wetland

March 18, 9 a.m.

Blackbrook Audubon will at Columbia Reservation, 25145 Royalton Road, Columbia Station, a 409-acre wetland reservation in Lorain Metropark. Participants will look for resident and migrating waterfowl, as well as resident raptors and songbirds. Dress for the weather, bring binoculars and a spotting scope, if available.

Birders are also welcome to accompany Blackbrook on its monthly IBA walk at Chagrin River Park on March 25. The one-mile walk begins 8 a.m. at the Reeves Road parking lot.

Audubon Recounts Ohio’s Early Natural History

March 20, 7 p.m.

Blackbrook Audubon will offer a free program at Penitentiary Glen Nature Center in Kirtland. Dr. Joe Hannibal will share tales of the explorations by Prince Maximilian of Wied, a province in Germany.

Dr. Hannibal is also an author, as well as a geologist and curator of invertebrate paleontology at Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

GCP Member Networking Event

March 22, 5-7 p.m.

Geauga Growth Partnership is holding its annual networking event at Sharon James Cellars, 11303 Kinsman Road in Newbury. The event is free. Cash bar with appetizers will be provided. Call 440-564-1060 to register.

Geauga Dems Address Right to Work

March 22

The Geauga County Democratic Party will host its monthly spaghetti dinner served with a hot topic at the Geauga County Democratic Headquarters and Social Hall located at 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury. The after dinner topic of discussion will be “Right to Work Law.”

Join in a conversation about the impact of Right to Work on lower wages and benefits that impact all industries.

Doors open at 5:45 p.m. for networking, followed by dinner served at 6:15 p.m. and the hot topic at 7 p.m. Suggested donation is $10.

GOP Coffee Conversations

March 24, 9 a.m.

The Geauga County Republican Party will hold its quarterly Coffee Conversations at its headquarters at 100 Center St., Suite 250 in the Chase Bank Building in Chardon. Use parking spaces in the back lot.

Geauga County Common Pleas Court Judge Carolyn Paschke will begin speaking at 9:30 a.m.

Grange Chili Cook-Off

March 24, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Huntsburg Grange is holding its 18th annual Chili Cook-Off in the Huntsburg gym. Entries are needed for the contest and vendor show.

Event also features a live band, 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction, big item raffle, cake walk and kids games.
