Twelve boys and girls from Geauga and Lake counties, ages 9 to 14, were named local champions of the 2018 Knights of Columbus District Free Throw Championship and have earned the right to compete at the regional level. District 27 in Geauga and Lake counties sponsored the local competition at St. Mary Church in Chardon.
Champions for the girls bracket were: Ela Grzywinski, 9; Selina Sparker, 10; Mary Lee, 11; Mia Tibayan, 12; Rosie Murray, 13; and Abigail Martin, 14.
Champions for the boys bracket included: Tim Robertson, 9; Sam Stollard, 10; Tyler Malloy, 11; Liam Prasznik, 12; Andrew Joyce, 13; and Marcus Rowan, 14.
Each contestant was allowed 25 free throw attempts in the contests. Ties were settled by successive rounds of five free throws per contestant until a winner emerged.
Each of the winners are eligible to compete in the regional competition held on March 4 at St. Hillary Church in Fairlawn, Ohio, with an eye toward moving on to the state and international levels.
