Rummage and Bake Sale

May 12, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A rummage and bake sale will be held at Claridon Town Hall, 13930 Mayfield Road. A $1 bag sale will be from 2-2:30 p.m.; bags will be provided.

Proceeds benefit Claridon Congregational Church and Claridon Community Helps. Call 440-635 1467 for information.

May 12, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Destination Geauga and 25 local businesses are hosting the 16th annual Spring Drive-it-Yourself Tour. Each stop offers special activities, giveaways, sales, food samples or demonstrations to tour participants.

Choose a minimum of 10 locations to visit and get map stamped, and then join the fun for the grand finale at 3:45 p.m. at Middlefield Market Pavilion. The building will open at 2:45 p.m. with vendors, entertainment, snacks, a silent/Chinese auction, and prize drawings begin at 4 p.m. Three grand prize baskets will be awarded. Winners must be present.

Participants can get a list of all of the stops and activities at Destination Geauga Office, 14907 North State Ave., Middlefield or online at DestinationGeauga.com.

50 Gun Bash

May 12, 11 a.m.

Ducks Unlimited 50 Gun Bash will be held at the Geauga County Fairgrounds, 14373 N. Cheshire St. in Burton

The main raffle will be drawn at 1 p.m. and the last at 5:30 p.m. One gun will be given away every five minutes. Food served from 1-4 p.m.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Tickets are available at all Great Lakes Outdoor Supply stores or from any Ducks Unlimited committee member. Gun list is posted on www.NortheastOhioDU.com and winner’s list will be posted after May 15.

Audubon Features Peregrine Falcon

May 15, 7 p.m.

Blackbrook Audubon Society welcomes Chad and Chris Saladin as they offer “A Look into the Lives of Peregrine Falcons” at The West Woods in Russell Township. The Saladins have observed and recorded peregrine activity at several Northeast Ohio nests for some 20 years.

Good Samaritan Dinner

May 16, 5-6:30 p.m.

The Burton Congregational Church, UCC, Good Samaritan Dinner will be at the church in Burton. Cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children 4-11 and free for children 3 and under.

Homemade meal consists of ham loaf, sides and dessert. Takeouts is available; call 440-834-4495 the day of the dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds go to meet emergency needs of local families.

CVHS Herb and Plant Sale

May 19, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Chagrin Valley Herb Society is holding its annual herb and plant sale, rain or shine, in the community room at the Bainbridge Public Library, 17222 Snyder Road. CVHS members will be on hand to answer questions, and the sale will include members’ plants.

Dairy Goat Show

May 19 and 20, 9 a.m.

The Western Reserve Dairy Goat Association’s 34th annual weekend of shows will be held at the Geauga County Fairgrounds, Burton. The shows are officially sanctioned by the American Dairy Goat Association for registered dairy goat breeds and are open to the public.

Saturday begins with open youth showmanship classes followed by open senior doe and junior doe shows and two rings of open buck shows. Sunday begins with an open senior doe show followed by an open junior doe show. For more information, call 440-298-3464 or email jmhr2001@yahoo.com.

SNPJ Farm Picnic Schedule

Slovenska Narodna Podporna Jednota (Slovenian National Benefit Society) is hosting a pancake and sausage breakfast May 20 from 9 a.m. to noon at the farm located at 10946 Heath Road in Kirtland. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.

On May 28, the farm will host a holiday dance from 1-7 p.m. featuring the Don Wojtila Band and Fred Ziwich ISM. Gates open at noon. Food will be catered by Joe Tavcar.

Rolling Thunder Blessing

May 20, 9:45 a.m.

Hambden Congregational Church will hold a patriotic service and bike blessing with Rolling Thunder at 13840 GAR Hwy., Hambden Township. All are welcome, two wheels or four wheels, rain or shine.

Motorcycles will depart from Chardon Square at 9:45 a.m. The church service will begin at 10:15 a.m.

A potluck picnic will follow at Hambden Township Park. Please bring a dish to share. The church will provide burgers, hot dogs and drinks. The Chardon VFW will grill and the Young Marines will participate with Jack Martin on bagpipes.

DTJ Chicken and Duck Dinner

May 20, 12-2 p.m.

DTJ Taborville is hosting a chicken and duck dinner at 9850 North Blvd. in Chagrin Falls. Cost is $12.50 for an adult dinner and $6.50 for a children’s chicken dinner. A half duck dinner is $17.50.

Czech beers are available at the bar. Frank Moravcik will provide music from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Call 440-543-8494 for reservations by May 17.

Protect Geauga Parks

May 20, 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Join Protect Geauga Parks for a Conservation Conversation – “ “Vernal Pools – Diamonds in the Rough” – at West Geauga Public Library, 13455 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township.

Guest speaker is Ray Stewart, Ohio Wetlands Association. He will discuss the wonder, beauty and importance of vernal pools.

Admission is free and open to the public; light refreshments provided.

Auburn Alumni Reunion

May 20, 2 p.m.

The Auburn School Alumni Reunion dinner will be held at Adam Hall on Washington Street. There are graduates from 1933 to 1981, but the committee would also like to include those who attended in the 1990s before the school was closed.

Century Village Trunk Sale

May 26, 10 a.m.to 5 p.m.

Geauga County Historical Society will hold its second annual Trunk Sale on the grounds of Century Village Museum, 14653 E. Park St. in Burton.

To reserve a space for $25, contact Terri at 440-834-1492. The number of spaces is limited. Sellers will be provided with an assigned site and may sell out of their vehicle’s trunk or from their own tables. Members of the Society may obtain a space at no charge.No admission will be charged to the buying public.

Tail-Waggin’ Good Time

June 1, 6-9 p.m.

Geauga County Recorder Sharon C. Gingerich, state Rep. Sarah LaTourette and the Totally Dogs 4-H Club will be hosting the 10th annual Tail-Waggin’ Good Time benefit dinner and silent auction for the Geauga County Dog Shelter and the Geauga County K9 Unit at St. Helen’s Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury Township.

Tickets are $25 per person, advanced sale only.

Audubon Counts Birds for Kids

Birders who are searching the skies for spring migrants can apply the numbers they tally to this year’s Birdathon, Blackbrook Audubon Society’s annual fundraiser. Individuals or teams find sponsors to pledge donations for each species found in one 24-hour period. The 24-hour period Birdathoners choose must fall between May 12 and May 20. The hours logged do not have to be consecutive.
