The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Sept. 21-27, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 422 calls during this seven-day period.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE
Sept. 23
12:59 a.m., Aquilla Road, Burton. Female is trying to break down his door, no weapons. She is his ex-girlfriend. Dispute between boyfriend and girlfriend. Girlfriend came home to find boyfriend in bed with another woman and wanted to get her dog and leave. No violence. Complainant worried about safety of girlfriend. She checked OK and went to her sister’s house for the night.
FRAUD
Sept. 21
3:27 p.m., Clubhouse Drive, Hambden. Complainant received a call from a male claiming to be from the DEA. He was told a car in his name was found in Texas full of drugs and paperwork with his name on it. Complainant was told to withdraw money from the bank and they would give him instructions where to send it. Complainant did not withdraw any money or give out personnel information. He was advised this was a scam. He also was advised to monitor his personal information.
Sept. 26
12:21 p.m., Jug Street, Troy. In the lobby to report she was scammed of $100. They tried to get $900. Victim received a message from a Facebook friend. The message was explaining a world federal grant. Victim gave $100 on Amazon through a text message. The person with that number called back and wanted $900 more, but victim did not give it to them.
HARASSMENT
Sept. 22
10:36 p.m., Hautala Road, Montville. Off-duty officer from Mahoning County is at a wedding reception. He states a female was crying saying she was groped by a male she does not know who grabbed her butt. Off-duty officer told male to leave and they got involved in a verbal altercation. Officer believes male was intoxicated. Dispatch asked to speak to female for the report. Deputy said male left in an Uber. Report taken.
JUVENILE PROBLEM
Sept. 22
12:18 a.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Group of 3-4 juveniles at Meadowwood and Aquilla punching the street sign and being rowdy. Teens advised to return home, very cooperative.
LOST PROPERTY
Sept. 22
10:34 p.m., Clay Street, Thompson. Complainant stated he placed his new Remington 30-06 rifle with a wood grain stock on top of his vehicle and drove off by accident not realizing it was still there. Complainant currently does not know the serial number of rifle, but will attempt to retrieve it. Firearm will be entered into LEADS as lost once serial number is retrieved.
THREATENING
Sept. 21
9:22 a.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. About 30 minutes ago a male was in the bank talking about his doctor. He made statements that if his foot didn’t get better they were going to amputate. He had an IV tube for antibiotics and then he made statements about threatening to kill his doctor (shoot his doctor first). He was driving a blue Amish van. Deputy advised.
Sept. 22
11:52 p.m., Leader Road, Hambden. Caller’s boyfriend is threatening to kill the caller. He is living in Madison. Caller says he has been committing credit card fraud and she is aware of it that is why he is threatening her. Caller says he spoke with the male 20 minutes ago. Warrants issued.
