Holiday Meals For Seniors

The Geauga County Department on Aging will offer a traditional holiday meal to any Geauga County senior, age 60 and older, who will be home and alone on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27 and/or Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

A friendly volunteer will deliver a hot holiday meal to the senior’s home and spend a little time visiting on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas Day.

If one is or knows a senior citizen who will be home and along on the holidays, call the department on aging at 440-279-2130.

Kidney Disease: Nov. 18, 12:30 p.m. Come to an educational class with Natalie Wells, RN, to learn about chronic kidney disease.

Alternative Medicine: Nov. 19, 12:30 p.m. Dr. Steven Arnold will share the pros and cons of alternative medicine. A question and answer period will follow.

Hearing Screenings: Nov 14. Holly’s Hearing will provide free hearing screenings. Call for an appointment

CapTel: Nov 14. Lori Rosenberg from CapTel will be demonstrating the phones and addressing issues that seniors have with telephone hearing loss. It makes a wonderful holiday gift to improve the quality of life for someone who struggles with telephone conversations due to hearing loss.

The Importance of Eating Unprocessed, In-Season Foods: Nov. 18, 10:30 a.m. Wellness Folks from Heinen’s will present the free program. Please register.

Activities for Mind, Body & Soul: Nov. 20, 11 a.m. to noon. The free program presented by Home Instead ends with chocolate.

Medicare Sign Up: Nov. 20, 9 a.m. Silvana Kostura from the Department on Aging will help sign seniors up for healthcare coverage, by appointment only. Call Chardon 440-279-2130.

Celebrate Life: Past, Present and Future: Nov. 20, 10 a.m. UH Geauga Medical Center will present a free program, “Know Your Numbers.” Find out what those lab numbers really mean.

Understanding Medicare

Geauga Department on Aging has five OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information) certified staff trained by the Ohio Department of Insurance. The program can help seniors get accurate and impartial information about Medicare, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D drug plans.

Seniors can have one-on-one review appointments with GDA staff through Dec. 5. Call 440-279-2130 to schedule an appointment. Appointments are available from Monday through Friday.

The Geauga Department on Aging staff will conduct Medicare 101 at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Bainbridge Public Library. The presentation will cover the basic facts about understanding Medicare.

Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP

The Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP Chapter 4527 will hold its holiday party Dec. 2 at the Sun Valley Party Center, 10000 Edwards Lane in Auburn Township. Tickets are $18 for members and $20 for guests and are available by calling Betty Scholz at 440-338-8321. Deadline for reservations is Nov. 18.
