Hambden Township resident Bill Gertz was sworn in as the newest member of the Geauga Park District Board of Commissioners during a ceremony Tuesday.
“We are fortunate to have someone as experienced in public service as Bill Gertz on the park board,” said Geauga County Probate Court Judge Tim Grendell, who presided over the swearing-in ceremony. “Bill will bring a much needed ‘seniors’ perspective to the board.”
Grendell, who replaces former park district Commissioner Lou Mucci, said Gertz will work with the park board and staff, and the county Department of Aging to expand programs so that more Geauga County seniors can enjoy the parks.
Gertz has served as president of the Geauga County Fair Board, chairman of the Geauga County Planning Commission and president of the Geauga County Community Improvement Corporation.
He also served as a member of the Hambden Township Zoning Commission for six years and as a Hambden Township trustee for 26 years.
In addition, Gertz was actively involved in the creation of the Hambden Township Park, served in the U.S. Marine Corps and is a long-term resident of Geauga County.
“Bill Gertz is a very honest and trustworthy person, who will bring great integrity to the board,” said Grendell.
