Dear Readers,
Hello, it’s Jill.
The new year has begun and this means it’s almost the end of our first semester. I can’t believe how fast the school year has gone by. I guess when you are having fun with your friends, you don’t notice how time flies! In the spirit of all the top 10 lists we’ve seen everywhere, I bring you my top ten best moments from Ledgemont High School this semester.
• 10: The Homecoming Pep Rally! This was very fun and it was my very first high school pep rally. I loved planning it and the crowd was very lively (even first thing in the morning)!
• 9: Our first football game! I remember everything about that game. It was away at Trinity. We got stuck in traffic, but when we did arrive, we were ready to play. It was nerve-wracking for me, because it was my very first high school game.
• 8: The basketball cheerleading sleepover. After our game against Bloomfield, we drove to our coach’s “beach” house. It was a really fun night, and we ended up getting to know each other a lot more.
• 7: The start of basketball season. I was really sad when football ended, and I couldn’t wait for basketball to start. Our boys work really hard and give it their all. We love to cheer for them.
• 6: Homecoming Week! This is one thing I will remember forever. Every day had a theme and the students dressed up to match. My favorite was gender-bender day. Each grade decorated halls and floats. The juniors won the hall contest and the freshmen won the floats (Go Freshmen!). On Thursday, we had the bonfire and the powder puff football game. On Friday, the cheerleaders put on the spirit jam for the elementary kids, and they cheered during the game.
• 5: Getting to do Redskin’ Jumping Jacks! I love doing them with my Redskins’ family! It is amazing to get to do them when we win and as a special community and family. It is such a great reward for our hard work.
• 4: Beating Windham at our last away game. Our Coach Robin gave the boys an amazing pre-game speech and the boys went out and gave it everything they had and brought a victory back to LHS. It was a fun bus ride home filled with laughter and singing.
• 3: Senior Night. That night was very emotional saying good-bye to our senior and captain, Kayla. It was a night packed with tears and smiles.
• 2: Passing our levy. This was so important to all of us and gave all of us hope!
• 1: The decision by the school boards to keep Ledgemont Local Schools. The top moment that I will remember from this year was when our school board voted “no” on consolidation with Cardinal. The cafeteria was packed with people, and all of the students came in and held signs saying how much they wanted Ledgemont to stay Ledgemont now and forever! Many of the students were crying and so were many parents.
So much happened throughout the school year and I hope there are many more memories to be made. I look forward to the rest of the basketball season and I am sure that there will be many special moments ahead!
L.H.S. Cheerfully Yours,
Jill
