The Chase Bank branch in Chester Township was robbed at gunpoint around 1:50 p.m. this afternoon, according to a Chester Township Police Department press release.

The branch is located in the West Geauga Plaza at the intersection of Mayfield and Chillicothe roads.

A law enforcement source told the Geauga County Maple Leaf the gunman is believed to be a white male in his late 40s. He was wearing a blue stocking cap with yellow lettering. He fled in a grey or slate blue minivan, which was dirty.

Earlier, around 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, officers at the department received a call of a reported shooting at 12005 Sandgate Drive in Chester Township.

A male caller reported his wife shot him and that he was “acting crazy,” according to the press release.

As officers arrived to the area of the reported incident, they obtained additional information that questioned the complaint’s validity.

Then, at 1:57 p.m., officers were dispatched to the center of town, where it was reported the Chase Bank at 12644 West Geauga Plaza had just been robbed.

The police are looking for a male suspect, reported as being approximately 6-feet tall, 220 pounds and a medium build. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a grey hooded sweatshirt and boots. The subject was armed and attempted to mask his appearance with the pullover stocking cap and sunglasses.

He is believed to be driving a minivan, light in color.

The police department, along with the Painesville office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is working on the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police department at 440-729-1239 or the FBI at 440-354-9927.

Check back for more details as they become available.
