T.J. Malkus has won the Tuslaw Varsity Wrestling Tournament, in its ninth year, four straight years.
The Berkshire Badger wrestling team, fresh off their Edgewood Duals Championship, continued on their hot streak this past weekend at the tournament, held January, 18.
The Badgers finished third out of 10 teams and had 11 placers in the tournament.
Timken beat the Badgers by 8 points in the semi-final round to advance to the Championship round, where they eventually lost to tournament-host Tuslaw.
Here’s of the Badgers fared: Dan Humes placed 6th. John Kumher, Nate Walker, Devon Stivers, and Tony (Bubba) Urban all placed 4th. Ben Blechschmid placed 3rd. Brandon Vander Maas, Ryan Miller, Cody Charvat, and Bobby Blair placed 2nd. Malkus was the team’s lone individual champion.
The Maple Leaf will have coverage of the Badgers’ senior night event, held Jan. 25 at Berkshire High School gymnasium. That try will be against Eastlake-North and Akron-North. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
The Badgers will travel to Newbury on Feb. 6 to take on Cardinal and the Black Knights in the 87 Rumble, an annual event between those schools. Look for coverage in the Maple Leaf. The even will also be filmed by GeaugaTV.
