The Geauga County Historical Society is offering a special educational program on the Civil War for middle school and junior high students on May 22.
Coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, the two-hour program, from 10 a.m. to noon, will address a variety of topics associated with the War of the Rebellion.
This program will take place in conjunction with the GCHS’s Civil War Encampment to be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 23-24.
Schools in Geauga County and neighboring counties are invited to promptly reserve student places in this program. Total enrollment is limited to approximately 200 students. The cost is $5 per student.
The program will consist of 10 sessions, each about 10-12 minutes in length. The talks will be presented by reenactors who assume the character of Civil War participants.
The lessons will cover a range of topics from military operations and equipment to camp life, home life and risks of disease and primitive medicine.
Interested schools are requested to quickly act to reserve your space. Picnic pavilion and other facilities are available for lunch hour.
