A Burton woman is dead after the car she was driving collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle Saturday night.
The fatal crash happened at approximately 9:35 p.m. on Pekin Road, west of Bass Lake Road, in Newbury Township.
Alcohol and drugs appear to played a role in the crash, Lt. Brant Zemelka, of the Chardon post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, said in a news release.
Holly Fritz, of Burton, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt eastbound on Pekin Road when she went left of center, west of Bass Lake Road, and struck head-on a 2004 Chevrolet Impala traveling westbound on Pekin.
Janet Covell, of Newbury, was driving the Chevy Impala.
Fritz was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where she died from her injuries.
Fritz was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, Zemelka said.
Covell also was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life threatening. She was wearing her seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
