Phys. Ed. Teachers of NEOhio Collaboration
By CFHS junior Courtney Den Braber
Seventy teachers from Northeastern Ohio traveled to participate in the third annual 21st century physical education in-service. The event happened on April 26 throughout Chagrin Falls High School.
While collaborating their lessons and activities with each other, the teachers helped one another come up with new, creative ways to keep their students interested.
Chagrin Falls health teacher Pamela Malone spearheaded the annual in-service, while health teacher Carole Dennison and gym teacher Paul Perrine were behind the scenes helping in all phases.
Key speaker Paul Zientarski, author of the book “Spark,” and Ryan Eldridge, from the Ohio Education Department, spoke at sessions such as “How Fitness and Exercise Affect the Brain and Learning” and “Navigating the Ohio Department of Education’s Physical Education Webpage” throughout the day.
Perrine led a group of the teachers through his daily gym class activities. He described the day as a “great success” and “looks forward to having it again next year.”
Physical education teachers, as well as students from Chagrin Falls, competed against each other in multiple games and activities. Sophomore Christoph Sontich participated in the team-building session at the in-service and said having it with the teachers “made the experience that much more enjoyable.”
The health and physical education teachers of Chagrin Falls plan to continue this in-service next year and for many years in the future.
Class Attends GGP Breakfast
On April 29, the entrepreneurship class of Chagrin Falls High School attended a Geauga Growth Partnership breakfast program on teen entrepreneurs. After the breakfast, Tracy Jemison president of GGP, accompanied the class to Great Lakes Growers, where the students learned about hydroponics. After Great Lakes Growers, the class traveled to Troy Innovation, a manufacturer of implants for spines, trauma, sports medicine, small bone, extremity and dental.
