An early-morning fire caused heavy damage to a Montville Township home, but resulted in no injuries, according to the Montville Township Fire Department.
The blaze was called into the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office dispatch at about 5:15 a.m. July 27, according to the sheriff’s blotter.
Montville Township Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Brian Brisky said the house and garage at 16351 Hart Road were fully involved when the fire trucks arrived on the scene from Montville, Hambden, Thompson, Middlefield, Rome and Harts Grove fire departments.
All residents of the home, owned by Kenneth and Linda Stanley, were safely out of the house, Brisky said, adding no civilians or firefighters were injured during the fight to control the fire.
The person who called the dispatch reported an explosion in the garage, according to the sheriff’s blotter.
The barn, several hundred feet from the house, was not involved, the chief said.
When Montville Fire Department arrived, it was decided to go to a second alarm, primarily to supply water to the rural property, Brisky said.A total of 15 departments responded to help get the fire under control, he said, adding crews stayed on the scene until 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. to make sure no hot spots flared up.
“We got it knocked down in a hurry,” Brisky said.
The Geauga County Fire Investigation Unit is looking into the cause of the blaze.
