No. 1 Dog Essay Contest
Kenston Intermediate School fifth-grader Gracelyn Skladany’s dog, ESPN, was selected as the Number 1 Dog in Geauga County based on her winning essay sponsored by Geauga County Auditor Frank Gliha. The contest was open to any fourth- or fifth-grade student in the county to kick off the 2017 Dog Registration in Geauga County.
Gracelyn’s teacher, Mrs. April Eyler, encouraged her students to participate in this writing contest. Gracelyn was impressed when classmate Emily Collier and her dog Stella were recognized with the award in 2016.
KMS Students of the Month
Kenston Middle School is pleased to announce their Students of the Month.
Students selected for Student of the Month honors were sixth-graders Hanna Busby, Grover English, Jonah Morgan and Katelyn Torres; seventh-graders Rowan Collier, Audrey Cowan, Kathryn Klotz, Cayden Phillips and Marty Schmoldt; and eighth-graders, Hannah Fender, Nathan Gaskins, Daniel Giebner and Moriah Wilson.
Rotary Senior
Erica Belfi has been selected Kenston’s Chagrin Valley Rotary Club Student of the Month. She maintains a 4.24 GPA. Erica was recognized as an AP Scholar by the College Board. She has earned departmental awards and an academic letter for her honors in art I, art II, band, Spanish III and music.
She was honored as junior class winner in the Gertsberg Law Firm We Solve Problems essay contest. At the Lake And Geauga County Secondary Art Show, Erica was named Best in Geauga County, received a $200 talent grant, two gold seals and an honorable mention.
Erica has embraced many leadership roles while at Kenston. She conducted the band as field commander for the past two years, co-founder and president of the Flute Choir, vice president of the Political Action Committee of Kenston and senior editor for Kenston’s literary and art magazine, Janus. She is also an active member of National Honor Society, Envirothon and Math Club.
Erica has dedicated much of her time at Kenston to the arts. She performs in the KHS Symphonic Band and is principal flautist in the Pit Orchestra for theater productions. She is also a member of the University of Akron Honor Band, which performs at the Ohio Band Directors Conference.
She plans to major in education, English or environmental science.
