STEM Winter Break Camp

Dec. 28-29, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Lake/Geauga Educational Assistance Foundation will hold a two-day career exploration camp for students presently in grades 5-8 at Auburn Career Center Technology Learning Center, 8221 Auburn Road, Concord. The STEM-based experiential camp, “The Alien Yo-Yo Toy Company,” will be staffed with a global certified career development facilitator and a certified STEM/engineering teacher. Students will be involved in career/talent exploration, entrepreneurship, engineering design process and a maker-space.

Register online at www.leaf-ohio.org/camp-registration. Cost is $75 per student. Additional costs have been underwritten by a generous gift from the Western Reserve Junior Women’s League.

GEL Breakfast

Jan. 6, 7:30-9 a.m.

Dr. John L. West, trustee professor of chemistry at Kent State University, will be the guest speaker at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (GEL) breakfast taking place at Kent State Geauga, 14111 Claridon-Troy Road in Burton. He will present “The Liquid Crystal Institute: 50 Years of Innovation.” The birthplace of crystal liquid displays, LCI is the world’s first research center focused on the basic and applied science of liquid crystals.

Breakfast and networking begin at 7:30 a.m. Free and open to the public. Registration is required.

Insect Extravaganza 

Jan. 26, 3:30-4:15 p.m.

Geauga Park District program for children in grades K-3. Registration is required.

Become a Google Guru

Jan. 17, 6:30 p.m.

Learn the search skills necessary to find whatever it is one is looking for. Bring a laptop or tablet. There will be a few laptops available for sharing.

FOX8 Sports Guy, Dan Coughlin 

Jan. 19, 6:30 p.m.

Join as local author and TV sports personality talks Cleveland sports. Books will be available for purchase and signing, $15.

Artists’ Journal Swap Club

Jan. 28, 1 p.m. 

An informational meeting will be held for artists from all visual media and all skill levels 16 and older. Monthly meetings will be led by local artist Halcyon Domanski to swap journals, chat and share techniques.

Chariot Racing

Jan. 7, 12-3 p.m.

Fans of Ben Hur and Ancient Rome who are 10 and older may join in an exciting strategic game led by a moderato. All game pieces will be provided. Registration is encouraged.
