100 Days Of School Celebration

Cardinal officially hit 100 days of school on Feb. 14. To commemorate the milestone, students and teachers in kindergarten and first grade dressed up like they were 100 years old. Teachers planned many fun activities throughout the day all centering around the number 100.

In Mrs. Kaylee Wells’ class, students had to find 100 Starburst candies and match them to the corresponding number on a chart. Only Mrs. Annie Lawrence’s kindergarten class found all 100.

Students were also encouraged to make something with 100 items or bring in 100 items that they counted. Teachers say students were all very creative with their outfits and their projects.

Congratulations on reaching 100 days – just 78 to go before summer break.

Young Entrepreneurs Recognized

Business is good in fourth grade as all students continue to capitalize on opportunities in the Entrepreneurial Fair. The fair offers each student an opportunity to develop a business and sell products to classmates using the money earned in a token economy system.  Students work in partnerships, develop viable business plans, set prices for products, offer incentives for consumers to purchase their products and in four separate Entrepreneur Fairs, offer their products for purchase.

After the fair, students must count their money, deduct any overhead, calculate profit and divide their earnings equally within their partnership. It is a great opportunity for students to apply their math skills and test their social studies entrepreneurism content standards.

In the second quarter students in Mrs. Santoro’s and Mrs. Farrow’s homerooms had an opportunity to be entrepreneurs and develop a business plan. Based off of those plans, six students were selected from the two classes as Young Entrepreneurs for the second quarter. They are Kayleigh D., Elizabeth L., Michael K., Austin J., Kamryn F. and Morgan C. Kamryn and Morgan actually posted the biggest profit from the fair, earning $1,320.
