March In and Prune Out
March 25, 9 a.m. to noon
Geauga County Ohio State University Extension and Sage’s Apples, will hold a hands-on pruning school, “March In and Prune Out,” at Sage’s Apples, 11355 Chardon Road in Chardon. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.
Participants will learn how to prune peaches, apples, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and grapes. Bring pruners and dress for the weather.
Registration fee is $20 per person or couple and includes refreshments, handouts and half peck of apples. The fee, payable to OSU Extension, may be mailed to OSU Extension, P.O. Box 387, Burton, OH 44021, or payable at the door.

Maple Sugarbush and Tubing Management Workshop
April 1, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Geauga County OSU Extension is offering a workshop that will cover evaluating a woodlot for maple syrup production and vacuum tubing installation. OSU Extension forester Kathy Smith and local maple syrup producer and professional tubing system installer Jason Grossman, of Grossman Maple Products, will present the program.
The program will start at the north entrance of Geauga Park District Headwaters Park located on State Route 322 in Huntsburg Township. Producers will look at the overall composition of the woodlot; determine tree size, number of taps and its suitability for the installation of vacuum tubing system will be discussed.
The program will continue at Farview Farms on Hale Road in Burton Township, part of a 3,200 tap operation, owned and operated by the Jim Timmons family. The 1,200 tap tubing system was installed by Jason Grossman.
The program is free, but preregistration is required. Dress for the weather; the program will be held rain or shine.
