Cardinal Senior Crowned Huntsburg Pumpkin Festival Queen

The 48th annual Huntsburg Pumpkin Festival was held Oct. 7 & 8.

Huntsburg resident Megan Maddox, a senior at Cardinal High School, was crowned the 2017 queen. Mega plays in the marching band, is on the track team and runs cross-country. She is the president of her 4-H club Totally Dogs and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Junior Queen Makalay Sams, an eighth-grader at Chardon Middle School, lives in Hambden Township. She is a certified scuba diver, participates in gymnastics and likes to bake.

Tot King was William Fisher and Tot Queen was Aubrie Modic.

In the “Giant Pumpkin” competition, Jeff Lewis upset Jerry Rose Jr. with a first-place giant weighing in at 1,136 pounds. Rose and his son, Jerry, came in second place with a 1,133-pound pumpkin and Jim Reiter finished in third place with an 895-pound giant.

  • Largest Field Pumpkin — 114 pounds — Jerry Rose Jr. and his son, Jerry
  • Largest Potato — Jerry Rose Jr.
  • Largest Zucchini — Megan Csontos
  • Sun Flower Head — 25 inches — Jerry Rose Jr. and son, Jerry

Car Show Winners:

  • Saturday Winner —  Judy Stafford, 1970 Chevy Nova
  • Sunday Winner — Sue Maddox,  1929 Ford  Model A  (Rat Rod)

Baking Contest Winners:

  • Adult Pie — Michael Lawrence
  • Bread — Cindy Smith
  • Cakes — Cindy Smith
  • Cookies — Cindy Smith
  • Other — Melissa Valezquez
  • Kids Pies — Megan Maddox
