Dorothy’s Porch Giveaway

May 31, June 1-2

A free giveaway of clothing for the family, household items, books and toys will take place Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road in Chardon. All items are free.

Youth Football, Cheer Registration

Online registration for Chesterland Lions Club youth football and cheer is available at www.chesterlandlions.org\footballthrough June 16.

Yoga at Chardon UMC

Wednesdays, 10-11:45 a.m.

Join for a gentle, progressive style of yoga suitable for all ages and body types, on the floor or on a chair, at the Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North St. No experience is needed.

Conducted by master teacher and instructor Susan Gundersen, a suggested donation of $10 is requested, with proceeds going towards the church’s Guatemala mission. Bring a yoga mat, light blanket and wear comfortable clothing.

PCC Rummage Sale

June 2, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The annual Pilgrim Christian Church Rummage Sale will be held at the church located at 202 South Hambden St. on Chardon Square. The sale includes all types of clothing, linens, household furnishings and much more.

Chardon Flea Market

June 2, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Chardon Square Association’s 27th annual Chardon Flea Market on Chardon Square features over 100 dealers.

Spaghetti Luncheon Fundraiser

June 3, 12-3 p.m.

Support Geauga Faith Rescue Mission and homeless in Geauga County by attending the spaghetti dinner and bake sale at Parkman Congregational Church, 18265 Madison Road. Cost is by donation.

VFW Auxiliary Rib Dinner

June 2, 6-7 p.m.

Chardon VFW Post 6519 Auxiliary will serve half rack of ribswith homemade mac and cheese, coleslaw and corn on the cob. Donation is $12 per serving. Tickets are on sale in the canteen.

Pancakes and Planes

June 2, 8 a.m. to noon

Chapter 5 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will host its ninth annual pancake breakfast at the Classic Jet Center at Lost Nation Airport, 1969 Lost Nation Road, Willoughby. Pilots are encouraged to “fly-in for some flapjacks” and all others are welcome to enjoy “pancakes and planes.”

Airplane rides for kids ages 8 to 17 will be offered through the EAA’s Young Eagles Program. Parental permission required. See local aircraft and meet the pilots.

Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for kids ages 3 to 12 and free for children under 3. All proceeds benefit EAA Chapter 5.

Wool Hollow Art & Quilt Fest

June 3, 12-4 p.m.

The Wool Hollow Art & Quilt Fest takes place on the green at Chesterland Historical Village on the village green located at the corner of Caves and Mayfield roads.

Music will be provided from 12:30-1:30 p.m. with vocalist Rick Sokul on his acoustical guitar. Something new this year will be the Bus Stop food truck for lunch options.

Artisans and crafters will be on the village green and all the vintage buildings will be open for tours. The event is free.

Composting 101

June 5, 7 p.m.

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), the Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste District and the Middlefield Library will host a free and informative program on the basics of composting at the Middlefield Library, 16167 E. High St., Middlefield.

Learn composting basics and benefits, different composting methods and how to avoid common composting problems. Participants will receive a kitchen compost pail while supplies last.

Interested in purchasing a wishing well compost bin? Pre-purchased bins can be picked up at the workshop by mailing a check in the amount of $35 made payable to Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste District, 5138 Enterprise Blvd. Warren, OH 44481.  Payment must be received by June 1 in order to be available for pickup at the Middlefield Library from 6:30-7 p.m. on June 5. Troop 193 Boy Scout Info Night

June 5, 7-8:15 p.m.

Troop 193 is holding an informational meeting at West Geauga Rec Camp for anyone interested in learning more about scouting. Boy Scouts is open to all boys ages 11-17. There will be a fun activity with campfire snack.

Troop 193 is an active troop holding monthly outings and summer options, including summer camp and high adventure treks.

United Way Coffee and Conversation

Join for a cup of coffee and casual conversation about the impacts partnership with United Way is making in the community. Sessions will be held at 8 a.m. June 6 at Buckeye Chocolates in Chardon, June 13 at DS Cakes & Sweet Café in Newbury, June 14 at Coffee Corners in Burton and June 20 at Panera Bread in Bainbridge.

Middlefield Historical Society hosts its annual garage sale at the Century Inn Underloft, 14979 South State Ave., Middlefield Village. Bargains galore, low prices, plus the penny box returns with new treasures. Reduced prices on Saturday.

VFW Golf Tournament

June 9

Middlefield VFW Post 9678 is holding its inaugural golf tournament at Pleasant Hill Golf Course, 13461 Aquilla Road in Chardon. Check-in is at 10 a.m. with by tee off at 11 a.m. Format is four-person scramble and there will be cash prizes for first, second and third places.

Early bird cost is $50 by June 1, or $65 afterwards, and includes awards, raffle entry and meal after the tournament.

Chagrin Arts Music Crawl

June 9, 6-10 p.m.

Chagrin Arts will present its fifth annual Music Crawl at various venues around downtown Chagrin Falls. Presented in part by the Chagrin Valley Chamber of Commerce, the event is free and open to the public and highlights the incredible talents of local musicians.

The event coincides with the Valley Art Center’s 35th annual Art by the Falls held in Riverside Park on June 9 and 10.

Words and Wine

June 12, 6:30 p.m.

Words and Wine, a monthly poetry reading series held at Rider’s Inn, 792 Mentor Ave. in Painesville, will feature Ray McNiece. A resident of Northeast Ohio, Ray has earned a national reputation as a poet and performer.Open mic will precede his reading.

CV Herb Society Meets

June 15, 12:30 p.m.

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at the Bainbridge Library to mingle over refreshments, discuss the success of the recent herb sale and enjoy a gardening, cooking and tasting presentation with Judy Strauss, of The Charmed Kitchen.
