A Mentor man was killed Monday morning in a head-on collision on State Route 44 in Chardon Township a half mile south of Hosford Road, according to the Chardon office of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Timothy Roos, 35, was southbound on Route 44 in a white Honda Civic around 8:57 a.m. Mauricio DaSilva, 30, of Painesville was headed northbound in a gold Pontiac Grand Am and hit Roof head-on while trying to pass another vehicle, said state patrol Sgt. John Thorne.
Roos, an employee at Heinen’s in Chardon, was killed. Dasilva was taken to Lake Health Tripoint Medical Center in Concord Township with non-life threatening injuries, Thorne said.
DaSilva was arrested and has been charged with improper passing, driving under suspension, vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter.
He is currently in jail at the Geauga County Safety Center and will make an initial appearance before Municipal Court Judge Terri Stupica at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday via video conference.
The accident is still under investigation, Thorne said.
