Happy New Year
The township trustees and fiscal officer held their 2015 organizational meeting on Dec. 31, 2014. In 2015, the board will continue to meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the township hall.
Nadine Pope will serve as chairman, with Keith McClintock as vice chairman. The trustee liaison positions changed slightly for 2015. Mrs. Pope will handle the township hall and roads; Mr. McClintock will remain with zoning and the park; and Mr. Kaminski will oversee the fire department and cemetery. As a liaison to each of these areas, trustees just work a little more closely with those areas or departments. All planning and projects are decided upon by the entire board.
Following the organizational meeting, the final audit committee meeting of the year was held. Trustees would like to thank Larry Gaspar for his interest in joining the audit committee and look forward to working with him in the future. They would also like to thank Linda Petkosek for her many years of service on the committee.
Christmas Tree Recycling
Hambden Township has once again applied for and received a grant for Christmas tree recycling. Christmas trees can be placed in the bin at the township park through mid-January.
Place the trees in the bin and not on the ground around it. There will not be anyone to help with the trees when you bring them, but they can be dropped off any time during daylight hours.
Keep The Christmas Spirit All Year Long
A friend recently told me about a tradition to help keep the Christmas spirit alive throughout the year. She found out about it when someone gave a Christmas jar to someone close to her.
I had never heard of it, but in asking a few people, including my new daughter-in-law, I found many people who knew about it. They saved throughout the year by throwing their extra change into a jar. Then, at Christmas, they anonymously give the jar to someone who might need a boost in spirit or a little extra help at the holidays. Many just give them to brighten someone’s holiday.
After Christmas this year I cleaned out a jar and began to toss in my change. I hope by next holiday season to have it full and to pass it along to someone special. In the short time since I’ve learned about it, many people have shared beautiful stories with me and each one has made me realize that this is a big part of what the holidays are all about.
