Calling All Veterans
Chardon Schools is proud to honor the service and sacrifice of men and women who have served in the Armed Forces. Each of the elementary schools will be hosting a Veterans Day event on Nov. 11.
Hambden School staff would appreciate any veterans that are able to come share their stories with students. The program begins at 9 a.m. followed by a luncheon. If interested, please contact the Hambden School office at 440-286-7503.
Maple School will host its annual Veterans Day assembly at 2:15 p.m. Veterans who are family members of Maple students are encouraged to share their stories.
Munson School will be hosting two Veterans Day assemblies: grades 3-5 from 9:30-10 a.m. and grades K-2 from 2:20-3 p.m. Any military, including parents or grandparents, who would like to join us either as participants or guests should contact Principal Louise Henry at louise.henry@chardonschools.org.
Park School will honor veterans at 9:45 a.m. at Park Auditorium. The school invites parents and relatives of the students who have served in the Armed Forces to attend the program, and if possible, wear their uniforms. Each veteran will be given an opportunity to share with the audience their years of service, area of service in the Armed Forces, and what being a veteran means to them. The school also requests the Boy and Girl Scouts wear their uniforms on this day.
School parking is limited. Parking on the square is more accessible to the auditorium.
Note from School Nurses
Strep throat has been reported in several Chardon elementary schools. Most common symptoms are fever, red throat and tender and swollen neck glands. Symptoms may vary. Some children may generally not feel well, have no fever or a low grade fever, loss of appetite, headache and stomach ache.
Diagnosis is made by a throat culture. Students may return to school after 24 hours of antibiotic is completed. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential in preventing serious complications.
Because strep throat is spread like a cold, encourage children to use good hygiene practices such as always coughing into their elbow or a tissue. Frequent hand washing and keeping hands away from the face are the best preventative measures.
Please have children wash their hands as soon as they get home from anywhere. These good practices will help decrease the likelihood of getting so many colds or strep throat.

Kindergartners in Kyle Manson’s class at Park School clearly enjoyed their recent Pumpkin Exploration unit. The students measured the size and observed the characteristics of the outside of a pumpkin, learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin, observed the inside of the pumpkin with their five senses and later tasted and described pumpkin seeds.
